Hong Kong & Macau: A Trip That Checked All the Boxes
There are trips you take just to rest, and then there are trips that fill you up — the kind that remind you why you love exploring new places in the first place. My Hong Kong and Macau trip was absolutely the latter. It was a mix of breathtaking skylines, spiritual moments, childhood dreams, and glittering city lights. And yes, I am still not over it.
Hong Kong: A City That Never Stops Impressing
The moment you see Hong Kong from above, you just get it. I visited the Sky100 observation deck and the view literally took my breath away. The city stretches endlessly in every direction — skyscrapers, the harbor, the mountains — all at once. I couldn’t stop taking photos, and honestly, no photo really does it justice. You have to see it yourself.

One of the highlights that I didn’t expect to love as much as I did was the trip to Ngong Ping Village and the Tian Tan Big Buddha on Lantau Island. The Ngong Ping 360 cable car ride alone was already worth the trip — you’re floating above lush green mountains as the sun begins to set, and the light turns everything golden. I remember just sitting there inside the cable car, barely speaking, just taking it all in. We skipped taking the stairs to the Buddha, but seeing it just below the staircase is still a view. I took a photo of the signs that read Success, Fortunes, Health, and Luck — and I genuinely said a little prayer for all four. Why not, right?

We also walked around Ngong Ping Village, where I spotted the cutest giant lucky cat (maneki-neko) welcoming visitors at the gate. That thing alone made me smile.
The next stop was one I had been dreaming of for years: Hong Kong Disneyland. I went in with the biggest smile on my face and it never left. Standing in front of the castle, walking through the gates, even just holding my ticket — it all felt magical. The child in me was completely alive that day. I wore my pink top and honestly, I felt like a princess. No shame in that at all.

Our night in Tsim Sha Tsui was honestly one big adventure before it even properly started. We were supposed to catch our Klook-booked Victoria Harbour Cruise, but we ended up wandering around the wrong area — we went inside the port looking for the meetup point, which turned out to be completely the wrong spot. We were late, got rebooked, and I won’t lie, there was a moment of mild panic hahaha. We strolled around the Hong Kong Museum of Art (closed for the night, unfortunately), the iconic old Clock Tower sat down to watch Symphony of Lights and wait for our rebooked schedule. On the Cruise, I had a cold drink in hand, the harbour breeze on my face, towering vibrant buildings in sight and honestly, I couldn’t have asked for a better night.

Macau: Old World Charm Meets Glittering Glamour
Getting to Macau was easy, and stepping into it felt like entering a completely different world. The first thing on our list was the iconic Ruins of St. Paul’s Cathedral — a UNESCO heritage site and one of Macau’s most beloved landmarks. Standing in front of those centuries-old stone walls surrounded by intricate carvings, you really do feel the weight of history. It’s beautiful and haunting all at once.

We also explored the Macau Fisherman’s Wharf area with its Roman-style architecture, colonnades and open-air spaces that feel like you’ve been transported to the Mediterranean. It’s such a unique mix of East and West, which is honestly the best way to describe Macau in general.
And of course, no trip to Macau is complete without experiencing the grandeur of The Venetian Macao. That ceiling. That dome. The gold. I walked inside and felt like I had been transported to a Baroque palace. The interior is so over-the-top beautiful that you almost forget you’re still in Asia. We strolled along the Cotai Strip at night too, and Macau at nighttime is something else — the lights, the energy, the scale of everything.

This trip was everything — culture, adventure, nostalgia, spirituality, and pure fun all wrapped into a few unforgettable days. Hong Kong gives you this electric, fast-paced energy that’s so exciting, and Macau balances it with a slower, more layered kind of beauty. Together, they make for one of the best travel combinations I’ve ever experienced.
If you haven’t been, put it on your list. You won’t regret it. 🙂
